Crash Barriers - FEMA calls for revised standard |
![]() |
FEMA was invited to give a presentation on Crash
Barriers and Motorcyclists in a meeting organized by ERF (European road
federation) with the cooperation of the CEN (European committee for
standardisation) on Passive Safety and road safety barriers on the 30th of May.
Many stakeholders were present but most importantly there were many people from
CEN. The presentation made by FEMA Campaigns Officer Filippo Marino was really
successful and received great feedback, but the most important thing to note is
that the Policy Manager of the CEN Working Group 1 –WG Road infrastructure
standardization– declared publicly after the presentation that he will raise the
issue in a meeting with the Commission that WG1 will have at the beginning of
this month and that he will try to insert it in the agenda of the next WG1
meeting.
Finally FEMA’s agenda is under the spotlight and we wish that it can finally
lead to a CEN standard for crash barriers also taking into account the needs of
motorcyclists. Our needs as road users are often neglected when it comes to road
infrastructure design and maintenance.
