During the MRF´s national conference, the Meeting of the
Minds, September 2006 in Lebanon, Indiana USA, Kirk ´Hardtail´ Willard was
elected president. The former Vice-President is taking over from Karen Bolin who
stepped down because of serious health problems. The motorcycling community,
both in the States and abroad, is loosing an inspiring leader with Karen Bolin
having stepped down as MRF president.
“We are obviously deeply saddened and concerned in hearing this news. The
Motorcycle Riders Foundation and the entire motorcycle community owes Karen a
great deal of gratitude for her service over the years and on behalf of the MRF
our thoughts and best wishes go out to her”, said Kirk.
Both FEMA Assistant General Secretary Bob Tomlins and FEMA president Kees Meijer
participated in the Meeting of the Minds. In 2005 Kirk had joined the FEMA
meeting in Denmark. The purpose of this visits is to exchange views and stay in
close contact on executive level, but also to enable all members and visitors
present at a meeting to experience the views from the other organisation first
hand. Exchanges like this have proven to be very valuable over the years and
contribute to the basis of international co-operation.
MRF is one of FEMA´s partners in an international coalition. This coalition is
formed by: the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), the Motorcycle Riders'
Foundation (MRF), the Federation of European Motorcyclists' Associations (FEMA)
and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The objective of this
coalition is ensuring an efficient representation of motorcyclists at the United
Nations where Worldwide Standards for Bikes and road safety measures are
developed.
