31-03-11 MAG called to give evidence to Parliamentary Transport Select Committee
Tuesday 29th March saw MAG give evidence to the Transport Select Committee hearing into their inquiry 'Effective Road and Traffic Management'. Motorcycles have a valid part to play in reducing the UK's traffic congestion and it is a mark of the growing respect that policy makers have for MAG, that General Secretary Nich Brown was asked to give evidence.

A strong case has been made against the lawfulness of a controversial pay-by-phone bike parking charges scheme that is being pioneered in central London, and for use by any UK council.

Over 80 people arrived at the Rose and Crown in Sandford, Devon, last Thursday night for the launch of another new MAG group.

16-03-11 Compulsory ABS and Anti-Modification proposals from the European Union:
A series of measures that threaten riders’ freedom to make informed choices, potentially putting riders in harms way and threatening the right to free-movement, have been proposed by the European Commission (the body of appointed civil servants that shapes motorcycle policy). A committee of elected Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) is currently considering these proposals and has already started toconsider recommendations in advance of a critical vote on 4th May 2011. ***Please read the information below for what YOU can do***

Day 2, the final day of the Appeal Court Hearing into the Westminster City Council parking farce, has drawn to a close. A well presented case was delivered by QC Philip Coppel and the 3 judges have retired to deliberate.
 
15-03-11 Bedford's Mayor leads the way!
The Mayor of Bedford Borough Council, Dave Hodgson, was leading the way on an electric scooter recently, when he showed MAG's Paddy Tyson the site Bedford has chosen to begin trials on non-slip composite access covers and non-slip crack infill. It was cold, wet and a perfect example of the kind of day when consistent grip levels are important to two wheelers.
 
08-03-11 Police stolen vehicle operation, nets 11% of bikes!
Last Saturday saw the first motorcycle racing event of the BEMSEE racing calendar get underway at Brands Hatch, but also witnessed the largest police operation in recent times focussing on stolen bikes. At 7am, as scrutineering was getting underway, almost 70 police officers arrived with a warrant to examine all the bikes in the paddock area, including the garages.
 
04-03-11 Powys County Council location marker initiative.
Powys County Council have agreed to put stickers on the back of road signs in the County, that give grid references of the precise location, including at locations where there is a history of accidents.

The Woolpack pub in Chelmsford played host last night to the launch meeting of the 3rd new MAG group of the year.
