01-10-2010 A great start to Carmarthen MAG

Two dozen riders came to the Castle Hotel on Priory Street in Carmarthen on Wednesday 29th for the first night meeting of Carmarthen MAG. The weather was great and a lovely warm atmosphere also filled the venue. Gary Lloyd-Coxhead was the member who arranged everything and the event was attended by Phil McFadden and Rory Wilson, the Welsh Regional stalwarts and by Paddy Tyson who rode down from Central and was delighted by the lack of precipitation.

Sue from Road Safety Wales came along and discussed all the casualty reduction schemes that are under way and thanked individual MAG members for their involvement to date. She hopes that the working relationship will continue to strengthen now that there is a formal group in the area and was proud to say that Dyfed-Powys Police already have 'Diesel spills kill' stickers which they give out to HGVs. She said hers were bigger than MAGs, but we all know that size doesn't matter..

Some riders made a great effort to attend the event and special mention must be made of Phil from the far side of Merthyr who rode over 80 miles to meet everyone. Thanks also to Carmarthen and District Motorcycle club who sent representatives and say they would like to affiliate to MAG. Welcome!

The new MAG group is no stranger to political activity both at local and national level so there is no doubt that this will be an active group. Two of the members, Roy Osmond and Ken Huntley have already met Minister Mike Penning and senior DSA officials in London to highlight the plight of rider training schools in Wales.
