30-06-2016 Birmingham bikers celebrate all that is good about motorcycling

Every year the West Midlands branch of The Motorcycle Action Group holds a demonstration ride in Birmingham.  This year marks the 40th running of this annual event which has become a bit of an institution.

To mark the 40th Anniversary MAG are planning to make this year's event a true celebration of all that is good about motorcycling and the recognition that has been given in the latest transport plan to the positive part that PTW's play in the transport mix.

Eddie Lowe, MAG West Midlands Regional Rep said:

“Powered Two Wheelers (PTW's) make a positive contribution towards solving many of the problems facing the transport policy makers in the West Midlands, and indeed the whole country.  PTW's help to reduce congestion, reduce emissions, take up less valuable parking space and provide more predictable journey times whilst being an affordable mode of transport."

The event is also going to provide a platform to launch a good natured competition that will help get the safety message out to younger riders. To give a taste of what is to come, MAG will be holding a challenge competition this will be set up and run by Redditch Motorcycle Training. We will then find out who is the Slow Riding Champion, from both professional riders Police and Fire Service and riders from the general public for the honour of proving who is the slowest!

“We welcome everyone, motorcyclist or not, to come and watch the spectacle” said Eddie Lowe.

The Brum Demo run will depart from The Old Hare & Hounds, Rednal at 01:00pm on 2nd July and run  through Longbridge, Northfield, Selly Oak, Five Ways Island, down Broad Street, past Paradise Circus then along the ring road to Haden Circus Highgate returning down to Pershore Road and stopping for the finale at Cannon Hill Park for the slow riding challenges.

West Midlands Fire Service along with West Midlands Police and Birmingham City Council will be on hand at Cannon Hill Park to give information and riding safety advice.
