MAG challenges cancellation of Bike Events

The Motorcycle Action Group, MAG, has been inundated with calls from bikers expressing their concern at the cancellation of the Welsh Motorcycle Show.

MAG share these concerns, in particular the potential knock on effect to other bike shows and rallies which may fall victim to concerns by the police and other authorities in relation to public safety and criminality.

The Welsh show has been cancelled because the land owners, the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, have withdrawn permission for the event to be held on their land. MAG has been in touch with the event organiser, Steve Bennett, and is offering all available support and advice to overcome the problems he has encountered to ensure the event can go ahead in 2009.

MAG will be making representations to ensure that bike rallies and shows are not jeopardised. MAG works closely with the police, local authorities and communities to ensure that public and community safety are not compromised, consequently MAG events have a good record for being trouble free.

Welsh show organiser Steve Bennett said, ‘It is vitally important for negotiations to be conducted in a rational and reasoned manner. I can understand the disappointment and concerns bikers will have at the cancellation of this years event but it is important that no one takes it upon themselves to carry out any activity which plays into the hands of those opposed to the show. This years cancellation is a major setback to everyone involved but I am sure that we can work positively to overcome them and ensure the event goes ahead in 2009’.
