MAG pushes for parking in giant Peterborough development

MAG Eastern Region Rep Dave Hammond attended a meeting with Hawksworth Securities PLC, the company that is proposing to develop the Westgate area of Peterborough City. Hawksworth are hoping to develop a leisure complex, including a multiplex cinema, food hall and other retail outlets and residential dwellings.

In front of the cinema at the heart of the complex will be parking for 300 cars. When questioned about secure motorcycle parking, Hawksworth said they had not considered it. Dave pointed out that Peterborough City Council recognise motorbikes as sustainable transport to be encouraged into the heart of the city to help limit car use. Dave pointed out the environmental benefits of bikes over cars and how MAG is lobbying throughout the country to make sure government and local councils consider motorcycles in all they do.

Peter Breach, Chair of the company said that MAG’s representative had put across a very reasoned argument that they had not thought about. Peter asked Dave what he would like to see done. Dave suggested that 30 secure motorcycle spaces would be good. Peter was impressed that MAG had managed to get into one of the early meetings even before a full planning application had gone in. Dave’s points were noted and he was invited to attend future meetings to make sure things were going as MAG would like.
