MAG questions six month sentence

The Motorcycle Action Group is concerned by the six month sentence handed down to the rider jailed for travelling at over 120mph with his child riding pillion.

MAG President Ian Mutch said:

‘On the face of it this rider’s behaviour sounds grossly irresponsible and warrants a severe penalty but I question whether the sentence is proportionate. Many non custodial sentences are handed down to violent thugs and thieves whose intent is malicious.

The law should distinguish between thoughtless behaviour and malicious criminal behaviour and on the basis of what we know this sentence sounds more like a political statement than the exercise of proportionate justice.’
